Chasing No. 1: Whitefish Bay’s Fall Title Hunt Heats Up

Last spring, while recapping a historic 2025-26 season for the Blue Dukes, the WFB Buzz dug into the WIAA record books and found that Whitefish Bay High School is closing in on a rare distinction: the most state team championships of any school in Wisconsin history.

The count currently stands at Madison West 93, Whitefish Bay 91. (link to the WIAA’s list, though they haven’t updated it to include the 2025-26 school year).

A few weeks into the Fall postseason schedule, the chase is very much alive. Boys soccer, the defending Division 2 champion, is back at state with a semifinal game Thursday. Football has won twice and plays in a Division 3 quarterfinals game Friday. And the two-time defending Division 2 girls swim and dive champions open their postseason at sectionals Saturday. Here’s where everything stands.

Football: a share of the North Shore title

Jake Wolter’s Blue Dukes finished the regular season 7-2 overall and 6-1 in conference play, tied with Homestead atop the final North Shore standings. The only conference loss came at Homestead, 42-20, on Sept. 25. The other loss was a nonconference game at Union Grove in Week 2.

Bay closed strong, winning its last three by a combined 112-40: Waukesha West (35-14), at Cedarburg (38-19) and Hartford (39-7).

Following up on their 2025 Cinderella playoff run, this year’s team has kept finding ways to win. As the No. 2 seed in its Division 3 bracket, Bay opened with a 34-14 home win over No. 7 Wilmot Union on Oct. 23, then beat No. 3 Wisconsin Lutheran 14-7 in Level 2, its second win over the Vikings this season.

Next is a quarterfinal game at home on Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. against No. 5 Catholic Memorial, which upset top-seeded New Berlin West last week. The winner will move on to the state semifinals Nov. 13.

Girls swim and dive: the title defense begins

The two-time defending Division 2 state champions won the North Shore Conference with 545 points, well ahead of Hartford (438) and Nicolet (401.5). Four of the conference meet’s top point scorers swam for Whitefish Bay: Maggie Dickinson, Aibhy King, Katelyn Anderson and Julia Burrall.

They open their postseason at sectionals Saturday, Nov. 7. The state meet is Nov. 13-14 at the Waukesha South Natatorium.

Boys soccer: unbeaten in the North Shore, defending a state title

The defending WIAA Division 2 state champions ran the table in conference play at 6-0-0, winning the North Shore outright.

Under coach Jackson Dryden, Bay finished the regular season 13-5-1.

The postseason has gone to form. As the top seed in its Division 2 sectional, Bay beat No. 8 Greenfield 4-0 in the regional final, routed No. 5 Augustine Prep South 6-0 in the sectional semifinal, and edged No. 2 Elkhorn in overtime 1-0 on Oct. 31 to win the sectional and return to state.

The state semifinal is Thursday, Nov. 5, at 1:30 p.m. at Uihlein Soccer Park, against Monona Grove. The championship game will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m.

Cross country: a conference title and a state runner-up

The boys cross country team won the North Shore Conference meet on Oct. 17, scoring 42 points to finish ahead of Slinger (55) and Hartford (73).

Depth did it. Four Blue Dukes earned first-team all-conference: Leander Braun, Mason Boyd, James Schumacher and Bennett Greischar. Calvin Rogers was also named an honorable mention.

The boys then qualified as a team out of their WIAA sectional and placed 15th of 20 teams in Division 1 at the Oct. 31 state meet in Wisconsin Rapids.

The day’s best Blue Dukes performance at the state meet came from a sophomore on the girls team. Karstin McCabe finished second in 17:34.2, behind only Bloomer senior Aliya Hartman, who set a state meet record.

Girls tennis

The girls tennis team went 33-9, finishing as a strong second behind Homestead in the final conference standings.

Isa Almeida earned first-team all-conference honors, as did the doubles duo of Celia and Lila Kemp. Elizabeth Krueger and the doubles pair of Janie Brown and Charlotte Meadows earned second-team all-conference. Mackenzie Good was also named third-team all-conference.

Big fan of this newsletter! Please feel free to check, but I believe the WFB Boys Soccer team will be playing Monona Grove at the state semifinal on Thursday. And if they win, very likely Wauwatosa East at the final on Saturday.

You are right – the first few google search results including Maxpreps has it incorrect. Seeing the correct schedule on the WIAA website. Updating shortly and thank you!
